The Sound and the Fury

He knew this day would come.

The day he and the Kingpin stood toe to toe for control of this city. However, he had envisioned it a little differently. He wouldn't have been the one caught and tied up. He hadn't gone quietly, as ten of the Kingpin's 'best' men would attest to, currently nursing broken bones and sore spots.

Things were not looking good for Daredevil. The Kingpin was flying high, so pleased with himself for having captured the vigilante. The fly in the ointment was what he called him. That tune changed when his goons unmasked him for all of them to see.

They had been beaten by a blind man.

Fisk seethed in anger against not only Daredevil but his own men for being 'plebians who couldn't kill a rat if they had to.' He'd then ordered trussed up Daredevil taken away to a secret room in his tower. One that hardly anyone knew about. This one was soundproof.

How many days ago that was, Matt couldn't say. He had managed to slip his ropes time and time again but it made no difference. The room was wired for sound, speakers on every wall. The noise that piped into the room was loud enough for someone with normal hearing. It was excruciating for Matt's super senses, every second he was in there. The sound echoing back and forth in the room, he couldn't get his bearings. Down was up, up was down. He crawled along the floor at times, trying to find a way out. But there was no way out. Time blurred together into one long session of pain and torture. All of it on video for the Kingpin to enjoy breaking the Man without Fear.

He had passed out many a time, ears bleeding, only to wake up to a henchman slapping his face to wake him up and set his chair upright again. And the noise would start again. It had gotten to the point where he couldn't think anymore. Hoping beyond hope that it would all end one way or another.

"No one else can do what I do. Fewer can do what I do and not kill anyone in the process." He defends with a shrug. "Just because you hadn't heard of me before we met doesn't make it any less a fact."

"Well, I suppose that depends on the crew as a whole. The role of a Time Master is to preserve time--something that's increasingly difficult with someone like Savage mucking it up--"

"--And us. Don't forget, we're kind of on the mucking end, too." Snart almost sounded pleased with that. Anything to ruffle Rip's feathers.

"Right. Believe me, that never slips my mind. Be that as it may, In the future I'm from, Vandal Savage has successfully dominated the world. You've met him, Mister Murdock. Imagine what kind of world that would be. The goal is to stop that from happening. Afterwards, should you choose to continue travelling with us, repairing aberrations in time, that's entirely up to you. You can be returned to your former point in time. That said, there is always the chance that not everyone will return from this mission. I believe it's only fair you know the risks."

By now, Matt might have noticed, even the lingering ache left over from his first encounter with Snart was gone. "I apologise, but lacking the original DNA data for Mister Murdock, I cannot repair the damage to his sight." Gideon chimed in. For a computer, she sure sounded genuinely distraught over that.

"Oh, don't let Rip fool you. He's just as much a misfit as the rest of us. Aren't you, Rip?" Snart didn't hide the smirk and Rip paid special attention to Matt so as to ignore Snart. He refused to dignify that comment with anything because it was a little more true than he'd like to admit. And they wondered why he'd kept his childhood a secret from them all.

"Someone who can put a leash on Mister Snart and his fellow loose canons, is more than welcome." Rip clasped his hands together in what was almost a clap, but not quite. "Right. Well, I'm needed on the bridge, lest the other loose canons decide to blow a hole in something historically important without their babysitter around."

Leonard waited for Rip to leave before he gave Murdock a critical glance. "That was too easy. I think he wanted me to ask you to join." Which, in hindsight, now it doesn't even feel like it was his idea to begin with. And if Rip wanted Matt around and wanted it to be Snart's idea, then that only meant one thing: Matt was a good influence on him. Damn.

"Fine, whatever. Gideon, let's get Matt a room."

"The Captain has already appointed one." Leonard just made a low, worried sound in the back of his throat. Definitely a bad sign.

"I'm from 2016, and I can promise, we believe in showers. Not so sure about Rip's, though. All I can really say for sure about his time, is that corruption is still a thing." He started down the hall, fairly certain Matt would follow, and was less likely to run into anything. Especially with Snart talking.

"You're also gonna need new clothes. The fabrication room should be able to pull up a copy of your suit--or whatever you wanna wear."
frostyfelon: (There are no strings on me.)

"I'm like... seventeen right now?" He smirked. Nope, no unwashed crewmates here. Well, it was hard to get Mick to take a shower, but it could be done.

"I'm pretty sure that can be arranged. I'll take you by the armoury when you're ready. Not everything in there goes 'boom'. Sara's got quite a few killer sticks in her stash." Leo didn't doubt he could pull off the sighted thing, but it was probably be a lot less stressful and exhausting to just go with the blind truth.

Snart smirked, a small huffed sound of a amusement followed. "Dear old dad was a corrupt cop. He used me on jobs as soon as I could walk. So, yeah. I've been causing trouble for for a long time." Cold didn't sound fond, like most do when they recall their childhood. If anything, he sounded bitter.

"I think she'd probably love that. None of us are dumb enough to train with her, so she'd probably try roping you into training, too." There was Hawk Girl, but she and Sara didn't train as often as they probably should.

"I wanna watch." Nope, he wasn't going to be subtle about it. A chance to watch both of them fly at eachother like crazy ninjas? Yeah, that would be intense. "Make it interesting, first one to tap, cooks dinner." Hell, he didn't even know who he was banking on, but he was pretty sure Mick would be interested in that sparring round, too.

Snart stopped at a room, touching the white, glowing sensor on the wall and the door slid open. "I'll show you around, but I don't do sponge baths. You're on your own, when the clothes start coming off."

"Look at that. We do have something in common. Hero and Crook have both been independent far too early in their lives." In his case, he was almost four... By eight, he was looking after his baby sister. At least he could see, however. But none of that needed mentioning.

"I'll leave you to it, then."

Len shrugs lightly, able to guess by the string of curses he heard down the hall a few minutes ago, to whom the lawyer was referring. "You met my partner. Mick's a hothead. He always has been and always will be. He takes some getting used to, I'll admit. We've had our fair share of disagreements, but he always comes around when he cools off." Or, almost always. Okay, so maybe he didn't always come around, but Leonard hoped if he said it enough, it would come true.

"You ready for the armoury, or were you headed somewhere specific?" Snart asked as he moved into step beside Matt, arms crossed, body a little too tense. He didn't like when Mick was all in an uproar and he'd already taken lip from the beefier criminal over bringing Matt 'home'.

"Yeah, one would." Apparently, Snart also thought the same thing. And yet, Mick had proven himself to be his closest friend, though they both loathed the term. "But one might also say I'm not the type to be on this ship doing what I do with these people, either." He shot back with a raised eyebrow.

"Temporal Zone. It's like limbo. A space between time where time doesn't happen. Rip likes to park us here a lot when he's lost."

"I heard that, Mr. Snart!" Rip yelled from his study, but Leonard just shrugged it off, not even dignifying it with a response.
frostyfelon: (It was only fair I break his.)

Not a problem! I hope you're doing well!

[personal profile] frostyfelon 2017-02-24 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Temporal Zone. It's kinda this big... emptiness. The more romantic members of the team might argue it's 'beautiful' but the more practical members just see empty space." Len crooked a brow for a moment and shrugged, then folded his arms almost uncomfortably.

"Well, Rip does. We're not usually in on the whole Where's Waldo: Time Travel Edition thing." Not that Rip would probably keep them out of the search at this point, but most of them just didn't have that kind of focus... or understanding of the whole threads of time thing.

"Gideon here has a back-up copy of the Vanilla timeline and can find differences comparing the current layout of time to what it's supposed to look like. They use that to find these aberrations where Savage screwed with time. Find the aberration, find the asshole. Or something like that. Problem is, Rip's not really a Time Master anymore, so it doesn't download updates anymore. But we made a friend who gave us updated info. It's complicated."
frostyfelon: (I'm a criminal)

I'm sorry!

That question gave Snart pause. "I see a mess of green and black space void of stars and planets. Foreign. Cold." He sighed--more of a huff, really. "And it makes me realise just how small Central City is. Even if this vast openness isn't really in space as we see it, it feels like we're a billion miles away from home." There, he used the word 'feels' in a sentence and didn't combust. Because, right now, he feels like he's a billion miles away from his baby sister and it hurts.

"I guess it probably doesn't trigger any of your radar senses, does it? Is that weird?" Honestly, he imagined it probably felt the same to him to look out at that emptiness as it did for Matt, who probably felt like they'd fallen into a void.

"Then you're lucky. It's eerie to me." Cold replied flatly.

"When we're here, we escape any changes to the timeline that someone else makes. But as soon as we re-integrate with time, things change. I think that's the other reason he parks us here." Snart shrugged it off. "Just wait until your first jump. Rip hasn't even explained the side effects to you yet, has he?"
